Keep Local Channels On When Service Had Been Interrupted

We use to have dish network when I was younger and when service was interrupted for non-payment the local channels stayed on which was nice when the weather was getting bad for blizzards to tornados. It also had auto tune now the only option we have is record this or series I don't want to record everything I want to watch I would like to have it auto tuned to the channel the show is coming on so I know when it is on when I'm doing something around the house.
