Community Connection Via Established Competitions
GameStop New Service IdeaSubmitted 5 years ago
To preface: I have read about the recent financial trouble GameStop has been enduring, and can't help but feel alarmed. I hold no love for the corporation itself, but my local stores are filled with awesome people. I don't want to see that go away, and I'm sure there are others out there that feel the same way.
The idea here is to take advantage of preexisting communities of gamers and give them a place to gather. An easy example of how to do this is competitions. For instance, you could host competitions for widely loved games like Super Smash Bros. Require a small entry fee for playing - some of which could be put up as a prize for the winner, further incentivizing people to participate - in these events to help fund them, and set it up by store district. This serves three purposes that feed into each other.
1. This brings people into the stores. This won't always do much, but people coming in means people will look around. People looking around brings the possibility of more sales.
2. The entry fee idea adds revenue - even if it is just a small amount - in and of itself.
3. It creates a sense of community, and strengthens public relations. If people feel they can gather somewhere, they will work to see it stays around if they can.
As mentioned before, these competitions could be done by store district. This could mean making one store a primary gathering point, or switching locations among small regions to promote travel to other stores.
