Connecting Devices To Home WiFi With Cell Phone's Flash Light
LG Product Improvement IdeaSubmitted 4 years ago
It would be nice to use a cell phone app to set up a WiFi network name and password to all devices at home, instead of navigating through settings of each device. For example, after changing the WiFi password, I could just walk from a device to another, blink at it with a cell phone and it would connect to WiFi. The cell phone has a LED flashlight that can be used to blink data which could be received by a phototransistor, etc on the device end.
My working prototype is described at https://iocafe.org/989-2/ It could be used as a starting point, no cost, MIT license. There is also a schema of electronics and links to iocafe github repos for the software. I would be happy to answer if anyone is interested.
What is important is that devices by different manufacturers would use the same "blink" protocol, and that blink protocol would be such that it can be generated by any cell phone (not too fast).
Best regards,
Pekka
ps. After connecting the device to the network cell phone app could also work as a remote control, it is in the same wifi network as the device. This would allow the look and feel of the remote to be a user preference.
