Ultimate Mini, Retro System!

Nintendo New Product Idea

Submitted 6 years ago

Based on the NES Mini system I was thinking of ways it could be even more of a success and possibly very profitable as well as educational.

1) New nes mini, completely compatible with ALL original nintendo games and peripherals. Basically, I'm thinking of is a box as closely matched to the original, but perhaps not needing to push the game down, just front load push in and done. 2 original control ports up front for original accessories, and HDMI output and ethernet. Also figure out a way to make the Zapper and Rob work with this new setup. They would also need to have the new ports on this system for new controllers and such.

2) Make an online store and mii and all the other bells and whistles of a modern Nintendo system, all reimagined in 8bit. This way players have easy access to the entire original library of games, and new games could be made as well. This nes will have an internal HDD just like a new system for all of the online content. The app store will also allow independent developers to make new games and nintendo can approve those games to get them on the store, much like how the Apple Store works, where the developer must get approved for quality purposes and then makes money on their work, while nintendo also makes a profit. Another cool idea might be to allow the option for customers to order and an official physical copy of the game manufactured and approved through Nintendo, with boxes, sleeves, instructions all just like the original system.

3) Educations, Profit, New Content -- Make an excellent new IDE for developing new games for the NES. It too could make money by selling artwork, game music and so on. But in this way you could use a modern language perhaps even a script such as javaScript for programming, but also have a visual editor for testing the games. Imagine the marketing campaign showing young children about programming but also bringing in young adults that can actually make money with their ideas.

If this was done right, it could make a hefty profit for Nintendo that would truly take minimal cost in manufacturing and maintaining the online store for it. It could lead to a super nintendo, n64, and so on rebirth for each of those consoles over they next several years, making each system able to continue to generate a profit for Nintendo as well as home developers and professionals! Heck even do the same thing for GameBoy, with brand new OLED display larger screen, excellent battery life. Include an HDMI output and bluetooth as well as one modern game port connector so you can play all your Gameboy content on a big screen or maybe even to a VR headset. Imagine being able to port over Virtual boy games with a modern day Oculus rift? :)
