Distracted Motorist Heads Up Sensor

Toyota Product Improvement Idea

Submitted 2 years ago

Are you sick of having to honk at people to move once a light turns green? More than ever, being distracted behind the wheel has been plauging the world faster than Covid could only dream of. In motion or not, more and more people believe it's okay to be on their cell phones while behind the wheel and this is especially true during stop and go traffic jams, waiting in line for a drive thru, or especially sitting at the traffic light. If you look around, 90 percent of the people around you have their face in their lap and hands on technology, leaving zero attention to whether traffic has started moving in front of them or not. No matter how hard society tries, not even the police are going enforce being distracted when you're vehicle is stationary and this results in many people looking like idiots as the car in from of them is 50 yards down the road while everyone else is stuck behind the distracted person. My idea is for a sensor that car manufacturers can adopt, or be sold as an after-market addition, that will give just a simple beep when the motor vehicle in front of them starts to move. This could be used by shooting a simple reader wave to the vehicle in front of you to judge when a distance gap is too great. Also, this device could also use the same traffic sign recognition software in modern luxury cars to determine if a light has turned green and also give the driver a simple beep as a heads up to start moving. As a result, more people make it through traffic lights, vehicles can quickly filter through drive thrus, and stop and go traffic (such as an accident on the interstate) can more safely and efficiently pass through, giving less hassle and far more convenience to all motorists.
