Electronic Stick Shift With Automatic Transmission

Paddle shifters are insufficient for sporty drivers. I would like to see cars that have a 5-7 speed stick shift located in the traditional location between the front seats. This stick would not manually shift gears, but would instead be electronic, telling the computer what gear to shift into. There would be no clutch pedal, as the computer would do the actual shifting.

There would be an automatic mode where it operates as a regular automatic, and then an option to utilize the electronic stick shift. Perhaps the owner could even fold the stick shift flat when not using it.

This would provide the ability to manually select gears without having to go through each gear sequentially. Fans of stick shifts would be able to drive the car as if it was a manual transmission, without the need for manufacturing a separate transmission for the car. Drivers could switch between automatic and manual mode on a whim, and everyone would have access to both.
