Pedal And Brake Sensor

Toyota New Product Idea

Submitted 4 years ago

Tens of thousands of accidents happen as the drivers fail to distinguish between the accelerator and brake pedal at the appropriate time and accelerate when a break has to be applied.

The present invention is on proximity sensors integrated with a vehicle which can help the driver distinguish between brake and accelerator pedal during driving. As the person takes his or her foot towards the accelerator or the brake pedal, the proximity sensor detects its arrival, proximity & position and sends a signal to a screen on the vehicle dashboard or front panel, indicating that the accelerator or the brake is being pressed. The image of the brake or accelerator is displayed on the dashboard through a grid of lines of geometric figures which progressively light up as the person initiates the action related to applying accelerator or brake. In an alternative embodiment, an audio message or an acoustic signal is generated as the foot approaches the brake or accelerator pedal. The sensor may comprise of an infra red sensor, a capacitive, an inductive or a motion sensor or a combination.
