Real-time Gas Spending Counter

We need a counter in the dashboard that calculates, in real time, the cost of gas consumption. A lot of cars will display mileage (x miles/gal or x L/100km) but this is not enough because it doesn't inform the driver it is consuming gas when the car is stopped, and people really care about money but don't care about burning gas. The counter should turn constantly, ajusting the number as soon as one cent of gas is consumed. It could be expressed as the value of the gas remaining in the tank, or in $ consumed since time X which is resettable at will. Of course it needs to be quick and easy to update the price paid for gas.
This could have an important effect on raising awareness of gas wasting.
