Recently, we purchased a Class A motorhome and were very disappointed to learn that our 2015 automatic 4 Runner SR5,could not be flat towed (4 wheels down). We have been looking for a vehicle that can be flat towed and do not want to have to go to a competitor for a new vehicle.
Why has Toyota never had an SUV or many cars that could be flat towed that are automatic with a manual transfer case? It does not appear that many Toyota vehicles even manual transmission are listed as being able to be flat towed. We would have the ruggedness for off-roading of the 4 Runner, the cargo capacity and the ability to carry 7 passengers when we need to. It would be helpful for Toyota to consider driver seat/ mirror memory for both drivers so the mirrors and seats don't have to always be adjusted.
With pandemic issues looming, many people in today's world are buying RVs and do not want to tow a dolly or trailer. They will be shopping for vehicles that can be flat towed. This will solve a problem for a lot of families and bring business to Toyota.
