Lower The Monthly Cost After The Contract Expires

Verizon, like most wireless carriers, subsidizes the phone cost via the 2 year contract - which is fine. However, if you are running an old phone and have a contract that expired, Verizon is making more off of you than customers running the latest. Shouldn't the most loyal customers get some sort of discount? Wouldn't this also increase their loyalty and make them more prone to referring friends?
