Verizon Clear Choice (pricing Plan)

So customer feedback regarding verizon has been the customers don't like being "locked" into a contract and yet they are somewhat skeptical of Edge.
So... How about offering the "Verizon Clear Choice" in which Verizon offers the best of both "worlds." With "Clear Choice" customers would commit to a 1 year contract with Verizon but during that one year instead of paying the taxes and fees and monthly line access in addition to their monthly data plan, how about the customer pays only the taxes and fees (which are generally higher than the monthly line access anyway) and they pay their data plan cost and Verizon "waives" the monthly line access fee for a year. Then, after a year, the customer can transition to Edge or a two year contract and if they go the route of the two year contract they would just essentially be assuming the monthly line access for the two year, but if they transition to Edge, they assume the monthly line access fee and what they have paid already in their first year goes towards their upgrade with Edge.
I think this Verizon Clear Choice plan meets the customer in the middle of the road and yet, might help the company overcome some ad versions to Edge and also generate more loyalty with customers that hate being locked into the two year contract.
