Illuminated Door Edge Protectors

Do you think that illuminated door edge protectors would increase road safety, especially for cyclists and motorcyclists?
I fitted these using cheap aftermarket products but a properly engineered system, like an upgrade of existing retractable door edge protectors used by Skoda would alert people that a door is being opened no matter from which direction they are approaching the car.
