The LG G2 was a great device, it even still is. The LG Optimus was fine but the LG G2 was feature filled and in my opinion was what gave the G lineup it's most success and kept people coming. It had a 1080p screen, 13 mp back camera with OIS , LTE bands, 2 Gb RAM (Which is a lot for a 2013 device, NFC ,IR Blaster , A-GPS + GLONASS and a snapdragon 800 Processor. For 2017 i'd like for a revised budget version which the specs below and the reason.

Processor : Snapdragon 430 - The Snapdragon 800 was top tier in its time but is plagued by heating issues which then lead to digitizer issues and in game lags. The snapdragon 430 has slightly better performance and practically never heats up to any large extent.

Camera : The rear camera was fine, it can remain a 13mp shooter but this time give it a f/1.8 apt for better low light performance. The front camera should be upgraded to a 5/8 mp with possibly front flash.

Battery: The 3000 mAh battery can remain but the quick charge feature should be added.

Screen: The screen can remain a 5.2 inches 1080p screen but give it an AMOLED panel instead for better battery life and richer colours. Gorilla glass 4 too ofc.

Software: Android N with stock UI preferably. Not too much LG bloatware.

Design: Keep it close to similar of the original G2 for the nostalgia.

Additionally: Dual SIM, an SD card slot, removable battery and fingerprint scanner would also be lovely. Keep NFC and all WLAN bands (Including ac).

Price: Hopefully $299 US. People loved their LG G2s and some still have one up until today. These specs coupled with that price will allow them to feel free and urged to upgrade from their beloved G2s. Even these that have later versions may upgrade for the nostalgic feel.
