"The Deliverer" Right Hand Drive Mail Delivery Vehicle

Toyota New Product Idea

Submitted 2 years ago

For 15 years my mother has been delivering mail in upstate New York for US Postal Service. Her, along with many other mail delivery drivers, use the left hand drive Honda CRV since the typical box trucks lack the safety of 4-wheel drive, which is necessary in the harsh climate of the northern United States. Many of those box trucks do not even include snow tires or air conditioning for the summer months. The only affordable right hand vehicle in the United States is a used Subaru and it is far from reliable and is no longer being made. Many delivery drivers in the area have tried this vehicle and ultimately switched to the left hand Honda CRV, which is only helpful due to it's removable center console. They need to remove the console in order to place a pillow for them to sit in the middle of their vehicle, drive with their left foot and kept their right foot on the passenger side to lean all the way out the window to place mail inside the boxes. It has completely destroyed my mother's back and her knee.
I am certain that a right hand, 4 wheel drive vehicle made reliable for mail delivery drivers would not only be profitable to your company, but profitable to the heart as well. If my mother, and I'm sure many others in her position, had an affordable and reliable right hand vehicle, she would not be in the painful state she is currently in.
Other features that are important to the safety of delivery drivers include an outlet to plug a flashing light into for atop of the vehicle or built in safety lights, large rearview windows and passenger windows, blind spot safety features, spare tire, heated steering wheels and mirrors if possible, seats that can go up and down for height, blue tooth phone connection, emergency calling, and a back up beeping feature.
Please consider this idea for the health, safety and comfort of mail delivers across the United states. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Michaela Badke
